Excavation and Site Prep Midland and Permian Basin Crews Trust
Advance Excavating and Paving provides excavation and site prep Midland and Odessa builders count on — cut/fill, pads, trenching, grading, and compacted subgrade across the Permian Basin since 1996. For homeowners, ranchers, builders, and general contractors who need a site prep sub that executes to plan.
Excavation is the earthwork that turns raw land or an existing lot into a buildable site. It includes cutting and filling to grade, trenching for utilities, foundation digs, detention cuts, and preparing a compacted subgrade that holds what gets built on top.
In West Texas, excavation is shaped by caliche, rocky cut conditions, heat, and wind. Material that compacts well in other regions behaves differently here. Our operators know when to rip caliche, when to import fill, and how to schedule compaction so moisture and temperature do not work against the finish grade.
RESIDENTIAL EXCAVATING
COMMERCIAL EXCAVATING
We work residential and commercial sites across Midland and Odessa, plus the wider Permian Basin.
WHAT EXCAVATION COVERS
Excavation is a scope, not one machine pass. Most projects include some combination of the following:
- Site evaluation and layout — We review your survey, civil plans, and site conditions before equipment mobilizes. Access, existing utilities, cut/fill balance, and haul routes get confirmed up front so surprises do not surface mid-job.
- Clearing and stripping — Organic topsoil and unsuitable material come off the build area before structural fill goes in. Leaving organics in the subgrade is a common cause of settlement in North and West Texas.
- Cut and fill earthwork — Excavators, dozers, and scrapers move material to design grades. Foundation overdigs, pond or detention cuts, and bulk grading fall here. We run our own dump trucks so excess cut does not pile up and stall production.
- Trenching and utility rough-in — Water, sewer, electrical, and septic trenches excavated to depth and width per plan. Texas 811 utility locates are completed before any digging begins.
- Rough and finish grading — Surfaces shaped to elevation and slope for drainage, pavements, and landscaping. Finish grade sets the stage for caliche base, asphalt, or concrete.
- Compaction and subgrade prep — Fill placed in lifts and compacted to support slabs, pavements, and structures. Skipping proper compaction is one of the most common causes of pavement failure and foundation distress in this region.
WHAT TO EXPECT
- Site visit and plan review — We walk the property, confirm access, and align on grades, scope, and schedule.
- Permits and locates — Grading permits where required; 811 locates before ground disturbance.
- Mobilization and earthwork — Equipment on site; cut/fill executed to plan with ongoing communication to your builder or PM.
- Compaction and finish — Lifts compacted; finish grades checked; site ready for the next trade.
- Haul-off or import — Excess material hauled away or import delivered and placed as specified.
